Reflections on Glass Exhibit at Naples Botanical Garden

October 1, 2018 – March 31, 2019

Join us as Naples Botanical Garden unveils our newest exhibition, Reflections on Glass: Fräbel in the Garden on October 1, 2018. A first of its kind in Naples, this whimsical show brings a collection of glass sculptures and installations by flamework glass artist Hans Godo Fräbel to meet the Garden. The 13 displays feature botanically-inspired pieces, playful figures and ornate geometric shapes.

Fräbel, one of the most influential flameworkers in America, has been an important part of the evolution of flameworking as a recognized and respected art medium. His work can be found in public and private collections in over 80 countries worldwide.

Reflections on Glass: Fräbel in the Garden can be viewed from October 1 through March 31, 2019 and is included with regular admission. One-of-a-kind pieces of Fräbel glass will be available for purchase in the Berger Shop in the Garden.

National Estuaries Day at Rookery Bay

National Estuaries Day at Rookery Bay

September 29, 2018, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is hosting a special 40th Anniversary National Estuaries Day celebration with free admission to the Environmental Learning Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This annual event includes staff-narrated boat tours (bus transportation provided to the boat 15 minutes away), introductory 30-minute kayaking trips, stand-up paddleboarding demos on Henderson Creek, Estuary Encounter experience, live animal presentations, crafts, Junior Scientist lab activities and more. Additionally, two food trucks will be on site during lunch hours.

A special feature for this year’s event will include a retrospective of 40 years of coastal stewardship, shown through a selection of short films by award-winning documentary filmmaker Elam Stoltzfus and Live Oak Production Group. Shorts include cameos by individuals instrumental in the creation of the reserve and many partners who continue to help the reserve meet its mission.

  • The number of closed sales in the 12 months ending August 31, 2018 for the Naples, Bonita Springs and Estero area decreased 5% year-over-year (6,770 vs 7,088).
  • There were 14 closed sales, priced above two million, in August 2018 compared to 24 in August 2017. During the 12 months ending August 31, 2018, sales in this category increased 8% over the same time period in 2017 (390 vs 361).

 

NEW LISTINGS / INVENTORY

  • During the 12 months ending August 31, 2018, a total of 10,828 new listings were added to the market, this is 5% fewer listings than the same time period, 12 months ending August 31, 2017.
  • Available inventory as of August 31, 2018 consisted of 4,569 units, a decrease of 2% vs the same time period in 2017. Current inventory represents 8 months of supply based on current absorption rates.

AVERAGE & MEDIAN SALES PRICE

  • The year-over-year average sales price for the area was $663,604 which improved over the same time period in 2017, representing an increase of 7%.
  • The median sales price for the area increased 7% to $390,000 vs $372,500 in 2017.

  • During the 12 months ending August 31, 2018, a total of 8,802 new listings were added to the market, approximately 3% fewer listings than the same time period 12 months ending August 31, 2017.

Women’s Open & Sr Open at Quail Creek Country Club

August 10, 2018 – August 11, 2018

Players will tour at least 18 holes on each course. “This prestigious Championship will give competitors a rare opportunity to play with some of the best professionals and amateurs from around the country, allowing great players from today and tomorrow to compete together on the same turf,” says Florida State Golf Association Director of Women’s Golf, Jenna Walkiewicz. “We want to encourage golfers to play with the best, learn from the best, and be the best,” she says.

In addition, the Women’s Open and Senior Open will offer players a rare opportunity to experience the best private club in the area, Quail Creek Country Club, with its two magnificent Arthur Hills courses.

The championship format will consist of 54 holes of stroke-play competition, with the field cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes. Each division will have a separate cut line, based on the ratio of Open players to Senior Open players at the start of round one.

For the first time, entrants are not required to be Florida residents.
